THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU!!
Posted on April 2nd, 2018
When our dear friend Rod Fonteyne passed away on May 3, 2017 following his battle with cancer, we lost the face of the Fort St. John Flyers. I only wish he could have been with us long enough to see the Flyers win the NPHL Championship this spring…there would have been no prouder man in Fort St John!
We owe so much to those who have gone before us…the history, the tradition, the dedication, the commitment, and the passion. We owe everything to Flyers executives of days gone by like former Mayor Bill Stark, Bill Spicer, Earl Alexander, and Ernie Carriere and fallen Flyers heroes like Rod Fonteyne, Alf Wik, and Gordon Strate. Each and every one of these gentlemen, along with so many others over nearly 60 years, cleared the path and showed us the way. All that remains for us every season is to carry on where they left off and do our very best to follow in their formidable footsteps.
When the Flyers dedicated the 2017-2018 season to Rod Fonteyne, I can assure you that gesture was not taken lightly. The entire Flyers organization including our executive, on-ice/off-ice staff, players, sponsors, volunteers and fans contributed immeasurably to our success this year. I cannot begin to thank-you all enough for everything you have done to make it such a memorable season.
Sincerely,
Paul van Nostrand
President,
Fort St. John Senior Flyers Hockey Club
